LPs Reconnect in NC: Morgan Creek, Academy, NC LP Landscape
Earlier this week, I was back in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina to catch up with a number of PE/VC and broader private/public investors.
Background: I worked at Morgan Creek from 2010-2013 and this week, I got to reconnect with a number of former colleagues who were back in the area (more on that below). The alumni club is pretty impressive and it was fun to see where folks are building / investing. We were one of the “early pioneers” in public, private, and alterative asset investing (leading up to and following the 2008 financial crisis).
Looking back, the most rewarding part was getting to work with so many great people during my time at Morgan Creek. More than a decade later, it was fun reconnecting with folks on a personal level and sharing a few good laughs, in addition to new investment ideas and insights.
Additionally, more than 300 institutional investors gathered at Fall Investment Academy Forum in Cary, NC. My former colleague Andrea Szigethy puts together a great lineup of investors from inside and outside North Carolina.
PE/VC fund managers and LP investors are always asking to better understand the LP landscape in certain regions. I’m currently working on a broader database that I’m excited to share soon. Inspired by these questions and the trip, I wanted to lay out some more details on large LPs that were represented this week:
Morgan Creek Alumni Club Attendees
I’ve included a quick list of Morgan Creek alums that were able to attend and that are spending time in PE/VC investing or company-building. I’ll include a broader list in the database to share at a later date (apologies to any who were missed)!
